Dr Şengül Çelik, lecturer at the University of Mannheim and member of Academics at Risk e.V., presented a paper titled “Crimes against Women in Turkish Prisons” at the conference “Crimes against Humanity in the 21st Century”. A high profile online mentoring software provider Volunteer Vision and Academics at Risk e.V. cooperated on a free mentoring program for members of AAR. Volunteer vision promotes a diverse and inclusive workforce and in this program academicians are aimed to be supported in their struggle to integrate to the society by finding jobs and promoting language abilities. We are excited to announce that this year Academics at Risk Association took part in the Frankfurt Book Fair, the largest book fair in the world, held annually in Frankfurt, Germany. The Book Fair took place from 18 to 22 October this year. Our association’s stand was located at Hall 4.0 G51 in the Frankfurter Buchmesse. We believe that it was highly beneficial to our valued members, as we were able to showcase our association and built new networks. We look forward to participating in the book fair in 2024 as well. Prof. Dr. Vedat Demir is an exiled academic who is currently the Einstein Guest Researcher at Freie Universität Berlin in Germany. He was a visiting professor at Universität Potsdam in Germany as an Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung – Philipp Schwartz fellow in 2018-2021. He was a professor at Istanbul University in 2010-2016. Dr. Demir received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Marmara University and his Ph.D. from Istanbul University. His research expertise focuses on journalism, political communication, and public diplomacy.
